China Vacations | Tianya Haijiao
Tianya Haijiao, Most Southern Point of Hainan!
In Chinese folklore, it was thought there was a remote part of the known world where the sky meets the sea. As this area is the most southern part of China, it has been named "Tianya Haijiao" (the furthermost part of the sky and the sea).
Tianya Haijiao is at the foot of Xiamaling Mountain in Tianya Town, around 24 km West of the tourist resort city of Sanya. This beautiful seaside park is a pleasant place to wile away a few hours and enjoy the sea breeze and listen to the crashing of the waves on huge rocks lining the shore.
These huge boulders are engraved with Chinese Characters including "Tian Ya" (Edge of the Sky), "Hai Jiao" (Corner of the Sea), "Nan Tian Yi Zhu" (A Pillar Piercing into the Southern Sky) and "Hai Pan Nan Tian" (The Sea Rising Against the Sky in the South). In the tourist area there is a great beach for swimming, a place to go fishing, boats to cruise on and other facilities to enjoy. If you are active, you can climb up a Platform lit by fire, or visit the Pavilion and look out across the sea, and walk along the winding paths in the hills by the beach.
Many young couples spend their honeymoon visiting Tianya Haijiao, as do holidaying mainland tourists. In Chinese literature, this location is mentioned in many famous poems, such as "I Will Follow You to Tianya Haijiao".
